MYTHS OF ALASKA

Answer to Situation #2
(1)       False:  Hold on there Partner:  Texas was the largest state in the Union until Alaska came along.   Alaska’s landmass is 1/5 the size of the contiguous United States.  If it’s really important to you, Alaska is larger than Texas, California and Montana combined or twice as big as Texas.  What I bet you didn’t know is Sitka is the largest city in the nation in terms of land size at 4,710 square miles.
(2)        True:    Okay Bill, we’ll give you that one.  Alaska’s population is currently estimated at 626,932, according to the 2000 Census count. That means there is one Alaskan for every .92 square miles of land.  For comparison purposes, if Manhattan, New York had the same ratio of people to land, there would be seven folks living there.
