Sitka Community Profile 2006-2007

Health Care

Healthcare in Sitka is provided by two hospitals -- Sitka Community Hospital (SCH)and Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) -- and a dedicated and concerned cadre of medical professionals that have been providing health care services to the community for over 40 years. SCH is owned by the City and Borough of Sitka and governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees. SEARHC is a non-profit tribal health consortium of 18 Native communities which serves the health interests of the Tlingit, Haida, Tsimpshean, and other Native people of Southeast Alaska.

Physicians who are in private medical practice in the community serve Sitka. Regular consultation, treatment and surgical procedures are also provided year-round by visiting physicians. Advanced diagnostic equipment is available here -- Sitka is a health care center for all of Southeast Alaska.

There are several dentists, chiropractors and a host of alternative practitioners, including massage therapists and acupuncturists.
