Recycling Program Active
Recycling Centers 4

Sitka has an aggressive recycling program for most consumables such as aluminum, glass, paper, etc. From the recycling centers downtown, the recyclable materials are brought to the recycled materials recovery facility (MRF) located at Sawmill Cove Industrial Park. Truckloads of recycled materials are compacted into bales and these bales are stored in a 40-foot van, which when full, is shipped to the Rabanco facility in Washington. The recycling center also accepts junk cars, aluminum pieces, old skiffs, and industrial scrap which are all crushed and baled for shipment down south. Household hazardous waste such such antifreeze, batteries, cleaning agents, diesel fuel, fertilizers, gas, paint, solvent, thinners and used oils can also be disposed at the site.
