Sitka is known for it's spectacular scenery and abundant wildlife. Residents and visitors alike enjoy fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing.

Fishing still tops the list of outdoor activities in Sitka. Another way to enjoy the water is to sea kayak miles of nearby sheltered waterways or look for wildlife such as humpback whales, sea otters and eagles.

A result of the community's love of the outdoors is an exceptionally developed trail system. Local parks, softball fields, a golf driving range, intramural sports and other recreation activities abound.

The city of Sitka also maintains two public tubs at Goddard Hot Springs, about 17 water miles south of town. The United States Forest Service maintains recreational cabins throughout the Tongass National Forest that can be reserved and rented.
