Sitka Salmon
Salmon, all commercially harvested species combined, make up the bulk of the commercial fishing harvest in Sitka. Four species of Pacific salmon are targeted for commercial harvest: pink salmon, dog salmon (chum), Chinook salmon (king), and silver salmon (coho). The other species of salmon found in Sitka waters is the red salmon (sockeye). This species has a limited run and is harvested for traditional Native cultural purposes and for subsistence.

Sitka is home port to 615 commercial fishing vessels (2010). The types of commercial salmon vessels are purse seiners, gillnetters and trollers. CLICK HERE to download a description of the different types of commercial fishing vessels.
