Arts & Artists

Perhaps it is the rain and the gray days of fall and winter that causes so many Sitka residents to take up some form of artistic endeavor. Or does the community and its fantastically wild surroundings simply attract artists to settle here? Whatever the reason, Sitka has a very active arts community. From world-class and down-home performing arts events to galleries filled with work by local and Alaskan artists, Sitka has a lot to offer.

At least two local entrepreneurs have developed shore excursion tours for cruise visitors that focus on Sitka's art assets. One tour is the "Wild Arts Artist Walk" that includes a hands-on experience for the visitor to do some glass blowing. Another focuses on Sitka's photographic opportunities in a three-hour tour that takes visitors to the best spots to capture Sitka in all its stunning, wild beauty. What creative business ideas do you have for sharing Sitka's art assets with visitors?
